Membership Levels

There are three levels of membership in the NZ Actors Guild. Here’s a little bit of information about them to help you work out where you currently sit:

FULL MEMBERSHIP

Full members gain access to all the services of the Guild and have full voting rights within the Guild. Full members are also eligible to run for the Guild Committee.

Criteria for Full Membership

To become a full member of the NZ Actors’ Guild you must have engaged an actors’ agent or have shown 5 years evidence (in the form of credits) of successful self-representation.

You must be at least 18 years of age and….

You must also satisfy ONE of the following criteria:

  • you can demonstrate at least 2 credited roles in film, television or video works in the last 2 years
  • you can demonstrate at least one lead (or principal featured role) in a television commercial in the last 2 years
  • you can demonstrate at least 2 roles in a professional theatre production in the last 2 years
  • you can demonstrate at least 6 professional voice-over performances in the last 2 years
  • you can demonstrate at least 14 days work as a professional extra in the last 2 years
  • you can demonstrate a body of work in film, television, radio, non-broadcast video and theatre spanning more than 5 years (if the above criteria cannot be met).

All evidence should be in the form of credits stating role, work, year of production and production company or theatre and will be reviewed by the Guild Membership Committee. If you believe you qualify for Full Membership for other reasons please contact the Membership Committee at nzactorsguild@gmail.com

If you otherwise qualify for Full membership but are aged between 15 and 17 you are entitled to apply for an Associate membership.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Associate members gain access to many of the services of the Guild but do not have full voting rights within the Guild. Associate members are not eligible to run for the Guild Committee. Associate members will be given the opportunity to participate in Guild surveys to ascertain the opinions of members and will be kept updated of all Guild activity. Comment and input from Associate Members is also welcome.

Criteria for Associate Membership

To become an Associate Member of the NZ Actors’ Guild you must have engaged an actors’ agent or have shown 5 years evidence (in the form of credits) of successful self-representation. You can also be unrepresented by an agent but currently studying an acting course in a tertiary institution. You must also be 15 years of age or older.

Associate membership is for actors who have not yet accumulated sufficient industry experience or who are still studying.

If you believe at any stage that your experience now qualifies you for Full Membership (as outlined above) or for other reasons please contact the Membership Committee at nzactorsguild@gmail.com

SUPPORTERS MEMBERSHIP

Supporters may gain access to some of the services of the Guild but do not have voting rights within the Guild nor are they eligible to run for the Guild Committee. Supporters will be given the opportunity to participate in Guild surveys to ascertain the opinions of members and will be kept updated of all Guild activity. Comment and input from Supporters is also welcome.

Supporter Membership is an opportunity for non-actors to demonstrate their support for the work of the NZ Actors Guild and to be informed about Guild activity. It is also a chance for younger actors who do not meet the age criteria of Full or Associate membership to be part of the Guild

If you’re not an actor – we’d love you to become a supporter!

If you have any other questions about any form of membership please contact the Membership Committee at nzactorsguild@gmail.com
